Learning a language is done by learning vocabulary. You can learn vocabulary with StudyGo. However, only reading words is not sufficient to actually remembering them. As we only remember 10% of what we read. We should do more for you to actually remember the words.
Repetition
To really remember new information, you shall have to read the information on repeat. We store words in our memory after we have seen the words a number of times. So repeating words is important to store them in long-term memory.
Test yourself
Besides repetition of vocabulary, it is also needed to test your newly learned knowledge. You can do this by testing yourself. This is essential, according to psychologist Hermann Ebbinghaus. From one of his many studies it became clear that you will forget new knowledge if you don’t repeat the information. At first, the words will sink quickly, and after a while this will become less and less.
StudyGo
It is possible to test yourself on vocabulary in different ways. We offer the following study modes:
- Spelling: You see a word for a few seconds, and you have to spell the word afterwards.
- Dictation: Listen to the word and type what you hear.
- In Your Mind: type nothing, just click to see if you got it right.
- Multiple Choice: select the right answer.
- Test: Type in the right answer.
Besides that we offer different settings to help you test yourself on vocabulary. Before the test starts, you can check which options you want during the test:
- Test in random order
- Punctuation is important
- Accents and umlauts are important
- Capital letters are important
- Continue to test until you’ve got everything right
- Pronounce the word correctly
- The ability to count your answer as correct
- Decide for yourself which question will pop up
